● The main focus should be to develop the HOSO market in China as India competes with their domestic production. This should be the strategy if India continues to grow big sizes.

● Larger size HOSO and HLSO shrimp markets exist but these are limited in its size and capacity to carry India’s expected growth in output

● Since the competition in HLSO/peeled wholesale markets where sizes overlap is fierce among L. vannamei and P. monodon producers, competitive pricing will be key.

● Investments in BAP/ASC certification for P. monodon farms will become necessary to grow niche retail market for HLSO/peeled P. monodon in the EU and US

RAW MONODON
▪ Raw P. monodon exports growth is expected to increase

▪ P. monodon exports almost doubled with market development schemes implemented in 2023.

▪ China absorbed much of the P. monodon growth.

▪ The marked increase in broodstock supplies in November and December leads to speculation of good crop coming up in 2024.

▪ Market Development is required for the highly potential HLSO/Peeled European market, HOSO China, HOSO/HLSO Japan, HLSO/Peeled and US HLSO/Peeled markets.

▪ Large Sizes are in Demand while Medium to Large Price Sensitivity is High.

▪ Medium size has high competition in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Madagascar and other African Domestic Production, as well as in Indonesia.

In order to STRENGTHEN MARKET PERCEPTION OF INDIAN SHRIMP, strategic and strong marketing efforts are required to elevate P. monodon as a sustainable, profitable and reliable alternative.
