➢ Department of Fisheries has been allocated with a 15% increase in the budgetary allowance than the current financial year. An amount of Rs.2584.50 crores have been sanctioned which is the highest ever annual allocation to the Department of fisheries.
➢ The Sunrise sector has seen the highest ever investment in last nine years which is more than Rs. 38572 crores.
➢ Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised the need for development of the Sunrise sector.
➢ Pradhan Mantri Mastya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is being restructured with more allocations to promote aquaculture productivity, to boost exports to and to generate 55 lakh employment opportunities and establishment of 5 integrated aqua parks.
➢ Blue economy 2.0 will be launched with a vision to promote climate resilient activities, restoration and adaptation measures and development of coastal aquaculture and mariculture.
➢ India is the third largest fish producing country in the world accounting for 8%of global production and contributing about 1.09% to the country’s Gross Value Added (GVA). The Fisheries sector has immense potential that can be harnessed through policy and financial support for sustainable, responsible, inclusive and equitable growth.
➢ The carving out of Department of Fisheries from the previously known Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries on 5th February 2019 was instrumental in giving the required focused attention to the sector. The schemes and programs such as Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC), are gearing the Department to achieve greater heights.
